One of my favorite way of relaxing while being creative is painting portrait studies of faces or materials I find interesting. 

Exaggerating and stylizing colors while keeping a semirealistic look is something I usually strive for.

Finding the perfect balance between bigger and smaller brushstrokes to capture the minute details is always a fun process to perfect.

Drawing appealing character designs and writing compelling characters goes hand in hand for me.  

I often end up creating a whole backstory for most characters I make, even by accident. Basing creative decisions on art theory and narrative decisions equally is something I really enjoy, and adds a whole level of complexity. 

Before I start a new concept, I take a long time looking for references, doing research on anything that could be used for the character, leaving me with a clear vision of what I want to create.
