This 3D model was created for a hard surface 3D exam during the second half of 2025. I knew I wanted to create a humanoid robot with some unique mechanics.
What I ended up creating was a construct with two seperate "modes", one civillian, and one for battle. It is the extendable arms, detachable sword skirt, and adjustable mirror face covering allow for this.
The rig took a long time to plan and scope out, as I quickly discovered I would need a lot more bones and controllers than I had originally imagined.
Each joint/controller controls 1-2 rotation axis, to allow for unique movement mechanics, as well as minimal usage of ball joints (apart from the hands and hip joints, as leaving them as restricted directional joints would sacrifice too much mobility options).
While drawing the concepts for the model, I had the rig in mind the whole time. Because of my goal to create a robot without the use of ball joints, it required alot of research, concepting and trial and error to allow the robot to both look and function how I wanted.
The main goal was to create a concept which played on the idea of femme fatale, mirrors, and being multi-functional.
